Identifying the Husband of Elizabeth Chittenden

"Savage, First Settlers of New England, 4:660, made the logical suggestion that her husband was Thomas(1) Wright of Guilford. However, the Wethersfield vital records show the bride of Thomas(2) Wright of Wethersfield as Elizabeth Chittenden ["daughter of Wm Chittenden of Guilford" was added in late nineteenth-century handwriting]. For Thomas(2) Wright of Wethersfield, see Henry R. Stiles, History of Ancient Wethersfield, 2 vols. (New York: Grafton Press, 1904; repr. Somersworth, N.H.: New England History Press, 1987), 2:851-52, and Joan S. Guilford, The Ancestry of Dr. J. P. Guilford, 2 vols. (Orange, Calif.: Sheridan Psychological Services, 1990-2003), 1:88; 2:703.

Moreover, when Hannah Chittenden made her will on 5 September 1674 mentioning sister Elizabeth (as living), Thomas(1) Wright of Guilford had already been married to Sarah Benton for nine months (Jacobus, "Guilford Vital Records", The American Genealogist 13:183). See also Ralph D. Smyth, "Thomas Wright and Benjamin Wright of Guilford, Conn., and Some Descendants," Register58 (1904):39."[1]
