THOMAS HYDE was born in 1840 at England. He was a Corporal in the British Army 16th Regiment of Rifles of foot (Bedfordshire regiment) in 1871. There are additional resources on the regiment here and here. He came to Canada with the unit.

MARY ANNE STICKLEY was born in 1838 at Newfoundland, Canada. The 1871 census lists her as born in Newfoundland with a nationality of Irish. The Hyde Rinke Marriage record lists her name as "Stickey", but all other sources show it as Stickley.

They married circa 1860. The marriage date is chosen so that they were twenty years old. Mary is listed as being from Newfoundland, so it is likely she met Thomas when his unit was stationed nearby. They appeared on the census of 1871 at Quebec Centre, Quebec, Canada

THOMAS and MARY ANNE STICKLEY immigrated circa 1874 to United States. Son Charles Hyde 1900 census data states that he came the United States around 1874. Son Thomas was born and died at five months old in Windsor, which is just across from Detroit. Based on the wedding record of daughter Mary Ann they likely lived in 1895 at Detroit, Wayne, Michigan.

The family stayed in the Detroit area for the rest of their lives. It is not currently known when they died.

A 1975 letter from granddaughter Lorretta Hyde Strole daughter of Charles and Mary Rinke Hyde to her niece Madeline Hyde Kowalsky, stated:

"I don’t know much about my father. I’m trying to find out about him. All I know is that his family came from Canada. He had a brother and 2 sisters. They’re all dead now…”

Charles had one surviving brother, William. His other brothers (both named Thomas Henry) died young. He had three sisters, Alice, Mary Ann, and Catherine. One of them could have died before Loretta knew them.
