1880 Census

Samuel Ward, 45, lives on the "Country road from Whisgeag Mills to Varney's Mill." He is a laborer. His wife Clara is 41. Their children are: Robert S Ward, 16; William P Ward, 14; George T Ward, 12; Edith Ward, 9; Earnest A Ward, 7; and Bessie Ward, 9 months. All but Bessie are attending school. His father, Robert Ward lives nearby, on the "Cross Road to Bay Shore," with Samuel's half-siblings. His brother, George Ward lives nearby on the same road "from Whisgeag Mills to Varney's Mill."

1900 Census

Samuel O Ward owns a farm on North Bath Road in Bath, Maine {Farm Schedule 18). The farm is not mortgaged. Samuel was born in Apr 1835 and is 65. He has been married for 37 years to Clara G Ward, age 61 (born Nov 1838). They have had six children, all living. Two of their daughters, both single, still live in the family home: Edith M Ward, 29 (born Nov 1870); and Bessie G Ward, 20, born Aug 1879. Samuel's uncle, James B Ward, lives next door. Samuel's son, Earnest A Ward, lives nearby.
