Email from Jack McAnally after a re-reading of Samuel's pension application: The marriage of Vashti and Samuel was performed by a Hobbs and reference to Culpeper as the county for the marriage is on more than one sworn statement. Only other thing of possible importance was the remark that Samuel was almost blind and moved to Morgan county, ILL to be with his children (not his daughter) which may imply that other relatives were in Morgan Co., IL than just the Wrights. The person sending some of the forms for the Wrights was John B. Duncan and he may be in someway related as that person stated he was at the death of Samuel Jackson. --Janiejac 08:12, 6 April 2009 (EDT)

Post-em left on a rootsweb chart by Sadie Sparks: "Fauquier Co, Va-Marriages Elizabeth Grinnan (Greening) (M) George Davis Dec. 17, 1770 Sec: Samuel Jackson Vashti Grinnan (Greening) (M) Samuel Jackson, Aug 11, 1777-Wit: George Davis-This couple moved to KY, where all their children were born, Samuel died in Morgan Co, Ill 1844 and Vashti died in 1846 Morgan Co, Illinois. She was the daughter of Thomas Greening and Mary (Duncan) Hackley, widow, who was daughter of Robert Duncan who left will in Culpeper Co., Virginia."

This Aug 11, 1777 was the date of the bond, not the actual ceremony according to Fauquier Early Marriages posted here: http://usgwarchives.net/va/fauquier.htm BUT another date is given for Samuel and Vashti's marriage in the book by J. Estelle Stewart King "Abstracts of Wills, Administrations, and Marriages of Fauquier County, Virginia, a 2001 reprint of the 1939 original. Page 53 gives marriage info: 11 Aug 1771 - and 1771 is a typo! And ALT date of marriage (and location) is taken from Samuel's pension application "Soldier married in the spring of 1782 in Culpeper County, Virginia, Vashti, who died September 28, 1846 in Morgan County, Illinois, aged eighty-three years." This calculates her marriage to be at age 19 which sounds more logical. But no online record has been found for this date or location. I'm told that a marriage at age 14 wasn't that unusual during that time period.

This later date of marriage of 1782 is found in DAR application #689407 with no location or other information.

   Date of marriage given in pension record based on faulty memory. The Fauquier County record is the only marriage record found for this couple.
