Family:Samuel Jackson and Mary Farrow (1)

Will of Samuel Jackson, 28 February 1815, probated 1 May 1815, Prince William Co, VA, Will Book K: 388-390.

In the name of God Amen. I Samuel Jackson do hereby make this my last will and Testament in manner and form following to wit--

And first my desire is that the money arising from the sale of land to Benson Lynn be applyed to the payment of my just debts except what I gave to the Baptist society of which there is a record in the Clerks office of this County and if any money should be left of it after paying my Debts the residue is to be applyed to the payment of my four Daughters fifty pounds each to wit Sarah Strother, Susanna Langfit, Jane Jackson and Betsey Jackson--that my Negro man Moses be sold for the same purpose and all my perishable property except what I shall hereafter mention--

Item I give and bequeath to my wife Mary Jackson my three Negro men namely London, Robin, David, and my Negro woman Sila, also two horses, six head of cattle, six sheep, twelve hogs, two feather beds and all the furniture as it now stands, both household and kitchen, except what I shall hereafter mention; also the land which my Father gave me by deed of gift, the land he gave me which he purchased of the Boyd Stones and the land I purchased of Billey Jackson during her natural life and at her death to be equally divided between all my children except the land she is not to suffer any waste of timber to be made on said land.

Item. I give and bequeath to my son George Washington Jackson one Negro boy, named Mason and all that tract of land I purchased of John Fairfax adjoining that I gave him by deed of gift and two sheep forever.

4th Item. I give bequeath to my son John Farrow Jackson all that tract of land my Father gave me by will which he purchased by Col. George Mason adjoining the land I gave him by deed of Gift. Also all the land I gave to his mother after her death, also one negro boy named Joshua, one feather bed and furniture, two sheep, one cow and calf forever.

5th Item. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Sarah Strother one Negro girl named Matilda and fifty pounds cash that I mentioned in the first Item and an equal proportion of the personal property with the rest of my children after the death of her Mother.

6th Item. I give and bequath to my Daughter Sibby Davis one Negro boy named Jacob forever and an equal proportion of the personal property, with the rest of my children after the death of her mother.

7th Item. I give and bequeath to my Daughter Susanna Langfit one negro boy named Philip and fifty pounds cash that I mentioned in the first Item and an equal proportion of the personal property with the rest of my children, at the death of her mother forever.

8th Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Jane Jackson one negro girl named Hester, one dark bay mare, one cow and calf, one feather bed and furniture, two sheep, one dozen plates, and two dishes and a set of tea ware, a tea kettle, pot and oven, a frying pan and half a dozen knives and forks, forever and fifty pounds cash which I mentioned in the first Item. And an equal proportion of the personal property with the rest of my children after the death of her mother.

Item. I give and bequath unto my daughter Elizabeth Jackson one negro girl named Charlott, one dark bay mare, one cow and calf, two sheep, one dozen plates and two dishes, half a dozen knives and fork, a set of tea ware, one tea kettle, one pot and oven, one frying pan and one feather bed and furniture forever and fifty pounds cash which I mentioned in the first Item and an equal proportion of the personal property with the rest of my children after the death of her mother.

Item. as to my Daughter Nancy Strother, I have given her what I thought proper until the death of her mother and then after her death the property of her is to be equally divided between all my children, to wit, Nancy Strother, Sarah Strother, George W. Jackson, John F. Jackson, Sibby Davis, Susanna Langfit, Jane Jackson, and Elizabeth Jackson, except the land.

Lastly, I appoint my sons George W. Jackson, John F. Jackson, and my son in law Philip Langfit my whole and sole executors of this my last will and testament ratifying and confirming this and no other in testimony whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my seal this twenty eigth day of February eighteen hundred and fifteen--

Saml. Jackson Test H. Barrow, William (his X mark) Harding, Richd. Davis, Junr., John H.. ? At a court held for Prince William County May 1st 1815 this last will and testament of Samuel Jackson decd. was presented to the Court and being proved by the oaths of William Harding and Richard Davis Junr. is ordered to be recorded and George W. Jackson, one of the Executors therein named, came into court and made oath to the same according to law and having performed what is usual in such cases certificate is granted him for obtaining a probate thereof in due form, and John F. Jackson, one of the Executors named in same will came into Court and removed the burden of the Execution thereof--

Teste Phil. D. Dawe, C. Clr. P. Langfitt qualified as Exor. Septemr. Court 1815.
