  4.   One would suspect that Samuel Hammond is the s/o Thomas Hammond and Mary Harrington, b. 15 Apr 1728 in Watertown. However, Source:Bond, Henry. Genealogies of the Families and Descendants of the Early Settlers of Watertown, Massachusetts (1855), p. 1:271, says this Samuel had 2 wives, "1st, Anna --- with children Avis b. 1752 and Samuel bp. 1761, and 2d, Eunice ---. A second wife named Eunice would mean the identification of Silas Gates wife as the widow of Samuel Hammond would have have to refer to a different Samuel Hammond. However, Bond presents no evidence, but his details match enough with other facts to suggest he was confused. "Samuel Hammon and his wife Anna" of Lunenberg had children Avis 1753, Anna 1754, Samuel 1756, and Phinehas b. 1758 according to Source:Davis, Walter A. Early Records of the Town of Lunenburg, Massachusetts, Including That Part Which Is Now Fitchburg, 1719-1764, p. 295-296. Further, this source had the intentions and marriage of Anna Hammond to Silas Gates (ibid, p. 230, 251). Source:Massachusetts, United States. Acts and Resolves, Public and Private, of the Province of the Massachusetts Bay, p. 17:425, references the petition of "Silas Gates and Anna his Wife, which said Anna was Executrix of the last Will and Testament of Samuel Hammond late of Lunenburgh deceas'd[,] and David Bemis of Watertown Guardian to Avis, Anna, Samuel and Phineas all Minors and Children of the aforesaid Samuel Hammond."
