Robert came to America to escape indenture in the English Navy. He went to live with his uncle William in Pennsylvania. In 1758, he lived in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He owned 120 acres. He was a farmer and a Prebyterian.

He was a farmer in Washington County, Pennsylvania, coming to Guernsey County, Ohio, in 1817.
