One of Ellen Hawkins Liston's Sons - Russell Liston, one of Biggsville's historians and collectors, took the pulpit at the beautiful historic South Henderson Church west of town Sunday morning to welcome visitors to a special service that finalized the town's four day Sesquicentennial celebration. Liston Today The Bethel United Presbyterian Church of Enon Valley, was the scene of a beautiful wedding this afternoon, when Miss Ellen E. Hawkins, daughter of Mrs. James Hawkins of North Beaver township, became the bride of Rev. Richard P. Liston of College Hill, Beaver Falls, Pa., at an impressive ceremony, performed in the presence of a large gathering of friends and relatives. The church alter was beautifully banked with garden flowers, carrying out a salmon pink theme cleverly combined with an all white motif, and arranged against a background of green ferns which outlined the chancel. Preceding the approach of the bridal party, Mrs. George Marshall of Dayton, Pa., pianist, played a program of appropriate selections. As she sounded the wedding March, the bride entered on the arm of her uncle, J.C. McKim of North Beaver township, who gave her in marriage. As the soloist, Chester Kyle contributed selections, "At Dawning", "O' Promise Me" and "Because" with Miss Marshall, as accompanist. The Rev. Wesley Anderson of Jamestown, a classmate of the groom, officiated at 2:30 o'clock, with the single ring service. The bride was lovely in a white silk lace gown, patterned along the Princess lines, toe length with a Queen Elizabeth collar. She wore a finger tip veil of tulle, gathered to a wreath of small gardenias. Her arm bouquet was of white roses and baby's breath tied with white ribbon streamers. Mrs. Henry H. Ford of Mansfield, O., as matron of honor, was attired in a yellow lace creation, toe length, with a wreath of of matching yellow roses adorning her head. Her bouquet was of Talisman roses and yellow gladioli. Miss Sarah McKim of Beaver Falls, as bridesmaid, wore a blue lace gown, made similar to that of the matron of honor, and a floral wreath to harmonize. She carried an arm bouquet of pink roses and blue delphinium. The Rev. Carl McGeehan, of Iowa, classmate of the groom, served as best man, while the Rev. Henry H. Ford, of Mansfield, O., and the Rev. Raymond Woodburn, of Mt. Jackson, all classmates of the groom, ushered. For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Hawkins wore a printed blue silk ensemble, and the groom's mother, Mrs. Hilliard, also chose a blue silk dress. Both wore shoulder corsages of gardenias. Mrs. Liston is a graduate of Union Township High school and Slippery Rock State Teacher's college and for the past several years, has been a teacher in the Big Beaver and North Beaver Township schools. Rev. Liston is a graduate of Union High School of Turtle Creek, Pa., Westminster college and the Pittsburgh Xenia Theological Seminary. At present, he is pastor of the College Hill United Presbyterian church at Beaver Falls, Pa. A reception was held in the church dining room following the congratulatory period. The bridal table had places marked for the wedding party. Members of the immediate families of the couple, close relatives and friends, were seated at several other tables, decorated in the nuptial motif. A tiered wedding cake surmounted with a miniature bride and groom, adorned the centered of the bride's table, further developing the theme of green and white in the details. Rev. and Mrs. Liston departed later on a northern motor trip, and upon their return will be "at home" with friends in their North Beaver township home. For traveling, the bride wore a tan and brown ensemble with matching accessories. Since the news of the engagement has been made known, the bride has been feted at a series of lovely parties and showers. The prominent couple has received a large collection of wedding and shower gifts to use in their new home. Image Gallery
