No record of a first marriage has been found, but some claim his first wife was Esther Bassett, daughter of William Bassett. The eldest child was Esther, born Oct., 1656 so probably married in 1655. Some sources say he only had one wife, but his second wife was too young (b. circa 1644) to have all his children. Attributes children up to Elizabeth, b. 1662, to first wife, and John, b. 1664, and all those after to second wife.
