    p 46 - This Indenture made the 2d day of August one thousand Seven hundred & Seventy nine between Nathl. West Dandridge of the County of Hanover Esqr. of the first part, Miss Jane Pollard of Goochland County of the second part & her father Joseph Pollard of the third part, WHEREAS a Marriage is intended by God's grace to be solemnized between the sd. Nathaniel West Dandridge & the sd. Jane Pollard between whom it hath been agreed that the latter shall retain the sole power over her own fortune & future acquisitions, & shall moreover be entitled to certain lands & slaves herein after described whereof the sd Nathl. West is seized & Possessed in case she shall be the Survivor to hold for her Life in lieu of her Dower & other claim in his Estate. THIS INDENTURE therefore Witnesseth that pursuant to the sd. agreement & for the sum of five shillings to the sd. Nathl. West Dandridge in hand paid by the sd. Joseph Pollard the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the sd. Nathl. West Dandridge hath granted bargained & Sold & by these presents doth grant bargain and sell unto the sd. Joseph Pollard his heirs & assigns the Mansion House whereon the sd. Nathl. West now resides together with four hundred Acres of Land to be laid of_ in a reasonable manner so as to include the sd. House, the plantation whereon it is, and the Garden, out Houses & other appurtenances thereto. To have & to hold the sd. House Land & premises hereby conveyed unto the sd. Joseph Pollard his heirs & assigns IN TRUST to & for the following uses, that is to say, to the use of the sd. Nathl. West Dandridge as of his former Interest therein until the said Marriage shall take effect & from thence forth to his use during the Coverture & if he shall survive the sd. Jane then to the use of the sd. Nath. West & of his heirs or assigns forever. But if the said intended Marriage shall take Effect & the said Jane shall be the survivor then from & after the death of the sd. Nathaniel West to the use of the sd. Jane for her natural life for her Jointure & in lieu, bar & full satisfaction of Her claim of Dower in or to the real estate whereof the sd. Nathaniel West Dandridge may be seized at any time during the coverture; and from the time of her Death then to the use of such person or persons as shall become entitled thereto by the gift or devise of, or legal descent from the sd. Nathl. West Dandridge. And the sd. Nathl. West Dandridge for himself his heirs Executors & Administrators doth covenant & grant & to and with the sd.
