  4. The 1849, 1907 and 1932 family genealogies all state, without qualification, that Nathaniel Foote's wife was Elizabeth Deming. However, this does not necessarily indicate that they had sources proving this, as many 19th and early 20th century authors simply did not acknowledge which "facts" were the result of reasonable conclusions or speculation. In The Great Migration series, Robert Charles Anderson calls her, in the Nathaniel Foote sketch, 2001, "Elizabeth -----, probably Elizabeth Deming, sister of John Deming …." In the Thomas Welles sketch, 2011, he calls her, "Elizabeth (Deming?) Foote, widow of Nathaniel Foote … and possibly sister of John Deming ….

The entire discussion of whether Elizabeth's maiden surname is "probably/possibly" Deming, comes from the entry in Elizabeth Welles' will, "my beloved Brother Mr John Deming sen." as an overseer of Elizabeth's estate. No other evidence has come to light.
