FROM: Michael Rutter, Outlaw Tales of Utah, pp. 5-6. The family lived in Beaver, Utah, until c.1878, then fell on hard times and moved to Circleville. The winter of 1879-80 was extremely harsh and many families in the area suffered great hardships. Ann left the family home and went to work at the nearby Marshall Ranch, where she was paid partly in eggs & butter. Young Robert took up work there, too, as an apprentice cowhand, and met Mike Cassidy, who took him under his wing. Cassidy, who always seemed to have too much money, also operated a rustling ring on the side, and Robert got caught up in it. References
