    Series: M252, Roll: 67, Page: 21.

In this census record the Vest family has 5 males and 5 females. 1 male is under 10. 1 male is between 10 and 15, which must be Joshua Vest who would have been about 13. 1 male is between 16 and 26, which must be John Vest Jr., who would have been about 23. 1 male is between 26 and 45. 1 male is over 45, which must be John Vest Sr. 1 female is between 10 and 15, which must be Elizabeth. There are three females between the ages of 16 and 26 which should be Rebecca, Nancy and Mary. Rebecca is married in April of 1810, so it's unclear whether her husband (at the time about 26) is included, or if the census was taken before the marriage. There is a single woman aged over 45 who must be Nancy Bailey, wife of John Vest Sr. This leaves James Vest and William Vest. James Vest gave a deposition in August of 1806, early on in the Vest vs. Mead court case in which it is stated he is of legal age (see image 27 of that case). Assuming legal age in Virginia in 1806 was 18, this would mean at the latest he was born in 1788 or earlier. With John Vest Jr. born late in 1787, it's unlikely that James would have been born by August of 1788, so he's probably John's older brother. I cannot find him in the census for Bedford County in 1810, so I'm guessing he is still living on his father's property, and is thus likely the male in the 1810 census in the 26-45 category. This leaves William as likely the male in the under 10 category. This also fits as William is the last of the sons to get married (save for James for whom I cannot find a marriage record) in 1832. In any case it is almost certain that both were born by 1810, as Nancy Vest would have had a minimum of 25 childbearing years by this point and is listed as over 45 years of age.
