It appears that Martha was not John's first wife. In the 1850 census, Martha's age is given as 20 (although she's 16 years older in the census ten years later). But the household also includes children that are 12, 10, and 8 (in addition to 2-year-old John Worth Ross). Presumably, John Senior was married to another woman who was mother of Jane, James, and Absalon; Martha, a later wife, appears to be mother of John Worth Ross and his younger brothers, Alexander and Anguish.--KF-in-Georgia 17:25, 3 May 2007 (MDT) References
