Know all men by these presents that We John Lapsley and Jas. Cloyd are held and firmly bound unto the Commenwealth in the just and full sum of fifty pounds current money and for the receipt whereof and truly made we bind ourselves jointly and severally firmly by these presents. Sealed with our Seals this 13th day of December 1778. The condition of the above obligation is such that wheras there is a marriage intended to be had and solemnized between the above bound John Lapsley and Mary Armstrong both of this Parish if Therefore there shall be no lawful cause to obstruct the said marriage then this obligation to be void.
