Family History

On 19 June 1779,[3] in the Diocese of London, John James Hamilton Esq. of the parish of St. George, Hanover Square, Middlesex, appeared to make oath that he was a bachelor aged 21 years and up and intended to marry Catherine Copley of the parish of St. Marylebone, Middlesex, a spinster and minor aged 19 years. Her father Sir Joseph Copley Bt. also appeared to make oath and give his consent. Both men signed a bond in the amount of £200.[2] On the next day, John and Catherine were married by licence in the parish of St. Marylebone by Joseph Turner. It was witnessed by [Earl of] Abercorn (John's uncle) and Jos. Copley (Catherine's father).[1]
