Family:John Fulkerson and Jeanette Pattison (1)

John Smith Fulkerson was a Civil War soldier, having enlisted 31 March 1862 Co C of 10th PA Reserve; wounded at Charles Cith Cross Road. He was 6’ tall with grey eyes, black hair, and dark complexion. John was wounded in the battle of Chickahominy on 27 June 1862. Between Jan and Feb he served as a guard at Brigade Butcher Shop and mustered out in Pittsburgh, PA on 11 June 1864, having transferred to the 2nd Regt PA Veteran Volunteers.

Civil War Pension Files, NARA He received a pension for chronic diarrhea and disease of nervous system and partial loss of left ring finger from gun shot wound. He enlisted 31 May 1862 and was discharged May 1865. From his pension record he says his wife is dead, he was married at New Castle, 8 Sept 1868 by Rev. John C. Smith; he has 3 children - David b 8 July 1869; Jennie b 29 Aug 1872, Samuel JR b 21 Sept 1877

His affidavit was signed by John L. Stitt, Adam Vogel (aged 48), and David J Greer (aged 26). He was dropped from the pension rolls on Dec 1900 due to death.I have his civil war records and his pension file.

J. Smith Fulkerson of West Washington St who suffered a stroke of paralysis some months ago died on the afternoon of Monday. He was he son of the late William Fulkerson and was born at the family homestead in Union Twp on 19 Feb 1833. He served during the War of the Rebellion in the 10th PA Reserves and was a good soldier. The children who survive are: Agnes M, wife of William Wick David P Fulkerson Jennie Fulkerson Ford Fulkerson

The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon and were well attended by relations and old friends. The internment was made in Greenwood.

Essential Questions

• Was Agnes the daughter of J. Smith Fulkerson? Family tradition says that her mother was married before but no data has been found to support this.
• Agnes was born in 1858, but according to the 1860 Union Twp, Lawrence Co, PA PO New Castle, 5 June 1860 Series M653 Roll 1127 p489 h/h 52/50 Patteson, David 50 Scot farmer Jane 50 Scot William 22 PA carpenter Ginett 20 PA Robert 18 PA farm laborer Alex 16 Shoe maker........Agnes was not listed with her mother, Jeanette Pattison, who was living with her parents. Where is Agnes?
