1900 Census

John Foren, 39 (born June 1860), live on Broadway (no address), South Portland, Cumberland, Maine (District 79). He was born in Maine; his father was born in Ireland and his mother in Maine. He is a "Mate - Steamer" (a mate on a steamship), and his home is rented. He was employed all year. Frances E, his wife, was born in March, 1867 (age 33). They have been married 12 years. They have had 3 children; two are living. Children are: Charles D, 7 (born Dec 1892 in Maine), who is attending school; and Lillian M, 2 (born Jan 1898 in Maine).

Also in the household are Daniel J and Phoebe J Cluff, John Foren's in-laws. Daniel Cluff is 67 (born July 1832 in Maine), and is a carpenter, although he has not worked all year. His wife Phoebe is 57 (born March 1843 in Maine). They have been married for 35 years and have had 9 children; 7 are still living.

His home is rented. He has been married for 21 years to Frances, 43. They have had three children; two are living. John and Frances were born in Maine, as were their parents, except for John's father, who was born in Ireland. Children are: Charles D, 17, employed as a candy salesman (not in school); and Lillian N, 12, attending school. The children were born in Maine.

Also in the household are John Foren's brother, Charles L, 46 and widowed, who is also employed as a sailor along the coast. Charles was born in Maine; his father was born in Ireland and is mother in Maine. Charles L has a son in the household: John C, 16, born in Maine and neither employed nor attending school.

He was born in Maine; his father in Ireland and his mother in Maine. His wife, Frances E, is 53, and born in Maine (as were her parents). Their daughter Lillian and her family live with them. Lillian M Cribby is 22, and born in Maine. Her husband Harry T Cribby is 27, and works as a ship carpenter. He was born in Maine, as was his father; his mother was born in Canada (French). They have two daughters, Louise E, 2 yrs 8 months and Mildred E, 11 months.

There is also a boarder in the household: John L Standford, 79 and widowed (born Maine, as were his parents). John Stanford is not employed.
