- The Dunham Genealogy says that the wife in this marriage was "Dorothy." Other family historians have given the name as "Dorothy Day." and list it as a second marriage with a date of 14 Mar 1641 or 1643 at Barnstable, Massachusetts. This information is incorrect and is posted in many places on the Internet today.
According to Florence Barclay in her Notes on the Dunham Family, TAG 30:143-155, this marriage is actually that of a John Downman or Downing of Braintree, Massachusetts and he is not possibly the same person as John Dunham. Indeed she points out that John Dunham names his wife Mary in his will as an executrix.
