Married Nov. 25, 1895 at Prairie du Chien his cousin, Esther, daughter of Robert and Esther Caroline (Adney) St. John, widow of John Love.

Newspaper article from Allamakee, IA Feb. 1909: "While cutting wood in the timber near Beulah last Saturday, William Adney met with instant death. He cut off a tree which lodged against another one. When breaking suddenly away without warning it fell to the ground with terrific force, and Mr. Adney being caught beneath it had his life crushed out."

(Note: This obituary and his tombstone differ on his birth year. ) OBITUARY: Wm. Henry Adney, born June 19, 1865 at Bradford, Illinois, died at McGregor, Iowa on Feb. 20, 1909 at the age of 44 years, 8 mos., and 1 day. He was engaged in chopping wood near Beulah station when he was accidently struck by a falling tree. He was married to Mrs. Elva Love on Nov. 25, 1896. Three children were born to this union: Anna, Florence, and Sylvia. He leaves a father, mother, six brothers, and two sisters to mourn his death. the funeral services will be conducted at the home Tuesday morning by Rev. W.E. Mann of the Congregational Church.
