  1. James Cary and Elizabeth Stone, in London: St. Mildred (Bread Street) & St. Margaret Moses - Parish Registers, 1558 - 1853 / Marriages.

« 27 Feb 1658 James Cary of this par., Tobakkenerst, & Elizabeth Stone of All Hollis, Bredgstreet, spinster, d. of Osnole Stone of Froston par. in Lestershire. Publication on 13 Feb, 20 Feb & 27 Feb » Accessed on Ancestry.co.uk > London, England, Extracted Parish Records
NOTE: "of this par(ish)" presumably refers to St. Margaret Moses - see next source S2. The parish register was united with that of St. Mildred, Bread Street following the Great Fire of London, which destroyed them both in 1666; and only the latter was rebuilt in 1683. The bride's parish would have to have been All Hallows, Bread Street, "on the south side of Watling Street". However the former may not have been the church where they were married. This source really seems to be referring to a "publication" and on three successive dates: "13 Feb, 20 Feb & 27 Feb" - which suggests that these were more likely 'marriage banns'. So this may explain why there is also a later date (10 Mar 1658) for their marriage - and at a different church St. Michael Paternoster Royal. [See S3 and S4 below.]
Though why they should have chosen to be married in neither of their own parish churches is a bit of a mystery. Of course, St. Michael Paternoster was not so far away from either Bread Street or Watling Street. Perhaps they had a particular admiration for the famous former Lord Mayor of London Sir Richard Whittington aka Dick Whittington - and wanted to be married in 'his' church!

  6.   The Map of Early Modern London.

The Map of Early Modern London site describes Bread Street Ward and maps the location of the sites James Cary would have frequented. The Salters Hall is marked above and slightly left of center on Bread Street. It is in the same block as the churches of St. Mildred and All Hallows. St. Margaret Moses is one block to the west. St. Augustine is two blocks west of All Hallows on Watling Street. St. Michael Paternoster Royal is at the far east of the map and slightly below center on the corner of St. Thomas Apostles Street and Whyttyngton College. St. Sepulchre is still farther west and north and is shown the southeastern section on map B4.
