Marriage

Jack Lee Chaffin and Martha Jaunita Atwood were married on April 29, 1939 in Wallace, Idaho by the Justice of the Peace, Ray L. Williams. Jack was 23 years old and Jaunita was 17. Their witnesses were Fred H. Chaffin and Norman Ebbley.

Jaunita had been previously married to Vern Chaffin, Jack's younger brother, on July 3, 1937. Jack had been a witness in Vern and Jaunita's wedding. Their divorce was finalized in January of 1939. Jack and Jaunita's marriage created somewhat of a scandal in the Chaffin family for some time.

Children

Jack and Jaunita had four children, three of which survived childbirth:

  1. Merlyn Jack Chaffin
  2. Betty Loy Chaffin
  3. Danny Chaffin - Stillborn
  4. Micheal Lee Chaffin

Residences

Jack and Jaunita made their home in the state of Montana living in various places throughout the state during their marriage.

Deaths

Jack passed away November 26, 1981 at the Missoula Community Hospital in Missoula, Montana due to complications for his long struggle with cancer. He was buried November 30, 1981 in the Victor Cemetery. After Jack's death Jaunita never remarried.

Jaunita passed away December 28, 2001 at the Nursing Home in Kellogg, Idaho from a stroke. She was buried January 4, 2002 in the Victor Cemetery beside her husband.
