  2. In S1, there is the cited marriage, following by the marriage of Israel Jr to Ruth Field in 1737, making it clear that the cited marriage is the second marriage of the father rather than a marriage of the son. Source:Packard, Theophilus. Genealogies of Samuel Packard of Bridgewater, Massachusetts and of Abel Packard of Cummington, Massachusetts, p. 8, says the wife is "Susanna, daughter of Daniel Field, of West Bridgewater". However, according to Source:Pierce, Frederick Clifton. Field Genealogy : Being the Record of All the Field Family in America, Whose Ancestors Were in This Country Prior to 1700, p. 173, the will of Abigail Field, unmarried daughter of Daniel Field, dated 1750, names her sister Susanna Field, not Susanna Packard. This calls the Packard Genealogy's identification of her parentage into question.

Unfortunately, the Field Genealogy gets confused too. It says Susanna m. 1735 Israel Packard Jr. who d. 1752 and she m. (2) 1754 Joseph Ames. Besides the Bridgewater records pointed out above, that make it clear Israel Jr. married Ruth, the Bridgewater VRs also show that it is "Ruth Packard" that married Joseph Ames in 1754.

The only appropriate Susanna Field born in Bridgewater, the daughter of John Field, b. 1702, is named Susanna Keith in her father's will, having married Joseph Keith in 1721 (the marriage being recorded in Bridgewater VRs). So she is ruled out.

However, there is a Richard Field who m. 1706 Susanna Waldo, and died in 1725 (Bridgewater VRs, p. 2:130 and p. 2:467). As this Susanna was born in 1684, she was a very appropriate age to be marrying Israel Packard who was b. 1680. Source:Lincoln, Waldo. Genealogy of the Waldo Family, p. 1:79, shows no subsequent marriage after Richard died, but says her death date has not been found either. She looks like the most likely candidate.
