Isaac Sheldon's first wife Mary Woodford died in April of 1684; his marriage to Mehitable (Gunn) Ensign took place after that date and before May 29, 1687, when their only child Jonathan Sheldon was born. (See note on David Ensign.)

In his will, Isaac left "what is due me in Hartford from my sons in law James and Thomas Ensigne to be her (Mehitable's) absolute dispose forever."
