Henry and Jacob (Jane's father) were in the original Collins party that settled the Duwammish Valley in 1851. In "Duwamish Diary," a book written in 1949 by students of Seattle's Cleveland High School, John Wesley Maple, brother of the bride, describes the nuptials: "The couple was married by Judge Thomas Mercer. The wedding feast consisted of venison, turkey, duck, fish, clams, potatoes and corn. Local Indians were fascinated by the ceremony and after the dinner the bride and groom stood in the room where Indians could pass through and see them. "In a somewhat formal ceremony Jacob Maple, the bride's father, shook hands with Chief Sealth, and then the chief and his 700 braves, all in gaudy costumes, passed through the room and looked with awe at the couple. After this Jake Lake played his fiddle while wedding guests danced the Virginia Reel, Threading the Needle and Weaving the Wheat. At two in the morning the bridegroom gave out and fainted on the ballroom floor, but in spite of this his guests stayed until three."[1] References
