Notes for UNKNOWN SPOUSE: This MAY refer to the wife of George Mabry: From: Julia Hook <Zephyrtoo@aol.com> Subject: Eliza Hume Lenoir Burdett Date: Sat, 3 Mar 2001 23:34:30 -0700
Surname: Hume, Sanderson, Saunderson RE: Your Inquiry re Eliza Hume Lenoir Burdett of Loudon Co, TN: I am looking for information to help identify Eliza Hume Lenoir Burdett's great grandparents (i.e., the parents of Eliza Sanderson/Saunderson Hume who was born near Melrose, Roxburgshire, Scotland in 1789. Eliza Saunderson married David Hume in Richmond, Virginia in 1820. David Hume was killed at his home near Louisville in Blount Co, TN in 1839; his wife Eliza lived until 1872 (first in Blount County, and later in Knoxville, Knox County with her daughter Scotia Caledonia Hume Temple and her family). David Hume and Eliza Saunderson had four daughters who lived to adulthood: Susan Wilson Hume (who married Byrd Smith and moved to Missouri in the 1840s)from who I am descended; Jeanette Laurimer Hume (who married George Mabry and remained in Tennessee); Isabella Jane Hume (who married Waightstill Avery Lenoir and remained in Tennessee); and Scotia Caledonia Hume (who married Oliver Perry Temple and remained in Knoxville, TN). Susan Wilson Hume Smith had two children who lived to adulthood - Mary Caledonia Smith (who married John Davis) and David Hume Smith. There are a number of descendants of Susan Wilson Hume alive today. Jeanette Laurimer Hume Mabry had a number of children who lived to adulthood, including a daughter (Isabelle) who married Judge Jerome Templeton. There were descendants of Jeanette Laurimer Hume Mabry alive in the mid-1960s, but I do not know about today. Isabella Jane Lenoir had only two children who lived to adulthood -- (1) Eliza Hume Lenoir (named for her maternal grandmother, Eliza Sanderson Hume) and (2) Louisa C. Lenoir (who married J. A. Norwood). Eliza Hume Lenoir Burdett had at least 4 children who lived to adulthood : Jim (who had two sons - George and Clarence), Georgia (married to N.W. Williams), Eliza Hume Burdett (married to Edward Augustus Shugart)and Jeanette Mabry Burdett (named for her great aunt Jeanette Hume Mabry). Georgia Burdett Williams was alive in 1960 (age 83), as were (I think) her sister Eliza Hume Burdett Shugart and her brother Jim, but her sister Jeanette had just died. Do not know about descendants of Eliza Hume Lenoir Burdett who are alive today. Louisa C. Lenoir Norwood had several children who lived to adulthood: Louise Norwood (married to Thomas McNeely), Isabell Norwood (married a Gaut) and Avery Lenoir Norwood. A number of Louisa's descendants seem to live in the Lenoir City, TN area today. Scotia Caledonia Hume Temple had only one child who lived to adulthood -- Mary Boyce Temple who never married/had chldren. Any help you could give me on the identity of Eliza Hume Sanderson/Saunderson's parents would be most appreciated. Best guess on their names: David Sanderson/Saunderson and Susan Wilson. Also would be interested in discussing issues and strategy with any descendants of David Hume and Eliza Sanderson/Saunderson!!!!!
Notes for JOSEPH ALEXANDER MABURY: From Donald E. Collins: George4 Mabry had a son Joseph Alexander Mabry who was born in 1796. This Joseph became the progenitor of the well-known (and tragic) Mabry family of Knoxville. I have written about them in the newsletter.
