  3.   "Identifying Mercy, Wife of Thomas Hinckley of Harwich, Massachusetts, as Mercy (Bangs) (Hinckley) Cole" by Glade Ian Nelson, in NEHGR, p. 162:216, discusses the identity of the Ruth Mayo. Noting that Source:Mayo-Rodwick, Jean. Rev. John Mayo and His Descendants (1015325) thinks the Edward was Edward's son, and Ruth was the d/o Jonathan Mayo and Thankful Twining, this source points out that the younger Edward was not known to have married a Ruth Mayo [since he m. (1) 1720 Sarah Clark, m. (2) 1730 Rebecca (Doane) (Allen) Higgins who married again after Edward Jr.'s death in 1756]. Further, this source suggests that the wording on the intention (Capt, Mrs) implies an older couple [not to mention the close correspondence with the death date of Edward's first wife]. However, there is then no obvious candidate to be this wife.]
