Notes for DAVID LYNN, LAIRD OF LOCH LYNN: NOTE: some sources claim that Margaret Lynn that married John Lewis was the daughter of David "Laird of Loch Lynn" Lynn, but that is in error. The Margaret Lynn that married John Lewis was the daughter of William Lynn (son of this David Lynn).

Here is a summary of the info I've gathered at various places online. I'm wondering if David's possible first or middle name of William is adding to the confusion. I hope we can somehow sort this all out. Here are my notes: The Lynns of Cunningham Dist, Ayrshire, Scotland were of the Boyd clan. According to web page appalachian home.tripod.com David was David Cameron, "Laird of Loch Linnhe" in Scotland. He was born betw 1640-1645 in Scotland. He was of the Presbyterian faith and was forced to flee Scotland for Ulster, Ireland due to religious persecution. He was known as David of Lynn. He's also been called William David Lynn. David and Unknown wife had the following children: -Sarah Lynn b: Abt 1670 in Springfield Manor, Clondevaddock Parish, Barony Of Kilmacrenan, County Donegal, Ireland married Henry Patton. Died Newton Limavady,Ulster,Donegal Co, Ireland. -William Lynn b: Abt 1672 in, Loch Lynn, Scotland. Married Margaret Patton.Died 1727-9 in Virginia, USA NOTE: THE FOLLOWING IS INCORRECT! This Margaret Lynn was the daughter of William Lynn above and GRANDDAUGHTER of David Lynn. -Margaret Lynn b: betw 1674-1680 in Kilmacrenan, Donegal. Married John Lewis. Died 1773-1775 at Bellefonte, Augusta County, Virginia, USA There is a William Lyne in the 1654 survey of Ulster living in the parish of Clondevaddock, where the Pattons lived at Croaghan House, Tamney. I understand his father was Andrew Lynn born in Scotland c. 1620. These references to Lines in Ayrshire include Andrew Linn who gave “sasine” of lands of Highless to the Laird of Hunterston in 1452 AD, Jhone of Leyn who witnessed a summons to court in 1495 AD, and Elizabeth (Bessie) Lyn, heiress of David Lyn, who is noted in receiving her father's estate in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, Scotland. Lewis in 1863; Lieutenant William Patton died in Winchester, July 16th, 1861; James Ricketts died at Mount Jackson, March 24th 1862; James H. Pugh died at Point Lookout prison in 1864; Benjamin Hite died in Hospital at Winchester; R.G. Clark died at Swift Run Gap in 1863; J.J. Pleasants died in Hospital; Wm.H. Rogers died in 1863; Baxter Slough died at Fort Delaware. The Company when organized had as Captain James G. Updike; First Lieutenant, Alexander M. Hamilton; Second Lieutenant, William Patton; Third Lieutenant, Clifton C. Burks With these officers it was mustered into service, but there were quite a number of changes in a short time.
