- The 1850 Tazewell County Census lists Caleb as 50 and a farmer,
Charity as 36 and the children James 18, Valentine 16, John 14, Wm. 12, Rebecca 11, Sally 9, Moses 6 and Martin 2. The 1860 census lists Caleb as 45, Seviale 40 and the children William, 21, Rebecca 18, Sarah C. 16, Moses 14, Martin 12 and Davis 10. The 1870 Russell Co Census records the family this way: Caleb, 69 works on a farm, Charity 58, keeping house, William 34, at home "afflicted", Moses 22, works on a farm, Davis 19, at home "afflicted" and Eliza 18, at home. According to Paul Bostic's book, Davis was crippled from a childhood fall. William's affliction is not known.
