Was with Washington at Valley Forge and shared hardships with the other members of the army. He also served in the war of 1812.

Asa Bowen was a blacksmith in the Revolutionary War. He lived in Windham County, CT until 1790 when he moved to Brattleboro area of VT, then to Orleans County, NY where he died in 1823.

In 1790 Asa moved to Guilford, VT and thence to Orleans County, NY where he died. Had a son, Asa Bowen, who lived in Lewis County, NY in early 1800's. Asa SR. married Rebecca Ellithorpe while Asa Jr. married Mehitable Boydon in Guilford, VT.

Asa Bowen and his wife Rebecca are buried in Orleans County, NY. He died in Aug or Sept 1823. He may have lived with son George William Bowen and then with son Abiel Bowen. He received a pension for month or two, before he died. Rebecca died around the same time because there is no Survior pension for her. In the pension papers it mentions Rebecca is sickly.
