On the 9th of September 1882, Andrew Johnson married Kate (Catherine) Price at Bethel House, George St, Sydney. Information from their marriage certificate shows that at this time Andrew was living in Sydney and working as a Mariner and Kate was living in Sydney and working as a servant.

The Sydney Bethel Union Society was formed in Sydney in 1822 to provide 'religious and secular instruction and social recreation to seamen of all nations visiting the port of Sydney.'

By 1863 when nearly 20,000 seamen visited Sydney, attendances at services at Mariners Church were growing, a program of social activities was offered and the first Annual Seafarers' Service (still held today) was arranged.

Andrew and Kate's marriage certificate show the witnesses as Lars Johnsen and Elizabeth Jones (Johnsen), who had married two years earlier in 1880. It is possible that Lars is a relative of Andrew.
