Abt 13 Jan 1734 Acadia

The DUGAS's of Louisiana can most likely trace their ancestory back toAbraham Dugasborn in 1616 at Toulouse, France. He arrived at PortRoyal, Acadia, in 1640 as a lieutenant-general. He married in 1647Marguerite Louise Doucet, daughter of Germain Doucet. She was born in1634 at Port Royal.

The line of ancestory to Louisiana goes through Claude II, son ofAbraham and Marguerite. He was born in 1652 at Port Royal, married in1673 to Marie Francoise Bourgeois. Claude II married a second time toMarguerite Bourg. One of their sons, Charles, was born in 1709.

Charles married Anne Robichaud of Acadia. It was their sons, Charles,Jean, and Pierre, who were the earliest members of that clan to settlein the Teche country of the Attakapas producing the main stronghold ofthe Dugas clan in Louisiana. However, Claude II did have children withhis first wife Marie Francoise. This line of ancestory is the subjectof interest here.

Claude III, son of Claude II and Marie, was born in 1676, at PortRoyal. He married Jeanne Bourg in 1702 at Cobequid, Acadia. She isdaughter of Bernard Bourg and Francoise Brun.

From this union was born Claude IV in 1704 at Cobequid. He married in1725 to Marguerite Coste, daughter of Francois Coste and MadeleineMartin.

Pierre, son of Claude IV and Marguerite, was born at Cobequid in 1728.He married Marguerite Daigle in 1752. Two of his children wereMarguerite and Marie. Pierre died in 1787.

Somehow, with countless other Acadians during the Expulsion, thisbranch of the Dugas's also found themselves in Louisiana. Though notpart of the main stronghold from the three Dugas brothers, they werepart of the same family dating back to Acadia.
