Definition

According to the American Heritage Dictionary at FreeDictionary.com "Enfeoff" refers to an action in property law in which a person is invested with possession of a freehold estate.

Derivation

The term is said to derive from a feudal term in which a person was taken into vassalage by giving a fee or fief in return for service. From the Anglo-French enfeoffer.
