Karl (Charles on some records) Dude, age 28, and his wife Katharina Schott Dude, age 27, arrived in the United States 29 Oct 1856 on the O. Thyen from Bremen, Germany (manifest #00018369, Germans to America, 1850-1874). Karl was born in Obernburg, Kries Voehl, Hesse-Darmstadt 5 May 1828 (according to information gathered by Rev. Deward C Williams and Lydia C Dude). Katharina was born 11 Dec. 1829. They were probably married in Obernburg.
They settled in Fort Russell township, Madison County, IL where their first daughter, Catherine Dude, was born 16 Dec 1856. She married William Henry Schaake 6 Mar 1877 in Madison County and she died in Lawrence, KS 3 Aug 1907. Her sister, Louisa Mary Dude, born 20 Oct 1860 in Madison County, married William's brother, Christian Carl Schaake, 12 Jul 1888 in Edwardsville, Madison County and she died 5 Aug 1953 in Lawrence, KS. These two families have extensive family around Lawrence. William and Christian were both born in Voehl.
Between the two girls Charles F Dude was born 6 Jan 1859 in Madison County. He first married Mary E Wieneke 20 Mar 1885 in Madison. He later married Dena // about 1905. He died 28 Dec 1939 at Nokomis, Montgomery County, IL. Three additional boys were born after Louisa. Henry Dudey was born 24 Sep 1863. He married Anna E Hehner 27 May 1891 and he died 22 Jun 1928, probably in Sumner County, KS. William F Dude was born 31 Mar 1866 and married Sophia Kaeser 14 Mar 1889 in Pike County, IL. He died 13 Dec 1927 in Montgomery County. Edward Lewis Dude was born 21 Oct 1871 and married Emma Matilda Stolte 6 Apr 1893 in Madison County. He died 9 Jul 1961 in Edwardsville.
