Abraham Daniel

Abraham Daniel, son of William Daniel and Sarah Postles, was born in 1769, most probably in Sussex County, Delaware.

Abraham Daniel married Mary Hickman, daughter of Jacob Hickman and Ann (--?--). Their children were: William (abt 1798 - as a youth), Joshua (1800 - aft 1860), James H. (1802 - aft 1880), and George (1805 - 25 May 1819). Abraham was a farmer. In 1800 Abraham was living in Cedar Creek Hundred, Sussex County. His family consisted of himself, one female aged 16 to 25, two males aged 16 to 25, and two males under 10. Abraham's wife, Mary Daniel, died between 1805 and 1808.

Abraham Daniel married second Comfort Stockley, daughter of Nathaniel Stockley and Elizabeth (--?--), about 1808. Comfort was born in 1787 in Sussex County. Abraham and Comfort's children were: Jacob A. Daniels (1809 - 14 Nov 1889), Elizabeth Daniel (abt 1813 - bef 1899), Mary Daniel (1813 - 9 Jan 1890), Stockley Daniel (1814 - as a youth), William Daniel (Sep 1817 - 1898), James Daniel (abt 1820 - bef 1899), David S. Daniel (abt 1821 - bef 1899), and Stockley Daniel (1821- 21 Jul 1840)

Abraham Daniel died at Cedar Creek Neck, Cedar Creek Hundred, Sussex County, Delaware. His estate was probated on 2 June 1831 in Sussex County. He was buried in Sussex County. In Runk's "History of Delaware", Abraham Daniel was described as "a Democrat, an ardent admirer of Thomas Jefferson, a kind-hearted Christian gentleman, he was beloved and honored in the community." He and Comfort were members of the M. E. church.

Comfort (Stockley) Daniel died on 26 March 1855 at her son David's house in Price's Corner, Appoquinimink Hundred, New Castle County, Delaware. She was buried in the Union M. E. Cemetery, Blackbird, New Castle County.
