I believe that we were in touch several years ago but I cannot now find the correspondence. The following seems to be the possible line before 1.Samuel Creswell in your First Generation. I have only set out brief details on each individual. I send it so that others may comment and maybe able to supply details which cement the relationships. Calverton seems to play a significient role but unfortunately the succession is not wholly proven.

-5. RALPH CRESWELL was a resident of Calverton and by a will of 1574 which was probated on the 21st September 1575 he left bequests to his three daughters. As there is no mention of his wife or possible son it is probable that they pre-deceased him.

-4. JOHN CRESWELL was a freeholder in Calverton in 1612. If there is a connection to -5. Ralph, then he could be a son or grandson.

-3. ROBERT CRESWELL married Elizabeth but as the record of the marriage has not been found her surname is not known. He signed the Oath of Protestation on the 6th March 1641. Robert died in about 1645 leaving no will but some sixteen years later on the 21st March 1661, Letters of Administration with an inventary, which records that he was also of Calverton, were issued to his widow. There were believed to be four children from this marriage-

THOMAS signed the Protestation Oath on the 6th March 1641 at Calverton the entry in the return noting that he was the son of Robert. His will was proved on the 9th June 1664.

HENRY was married and had children.

SAMUEL. See next.

MARY was baptised at Calverton on the 8th February 1617.

-2. SAMUEL was living in Calverton when he married Mary Hall at Gedney on the 11th November 1648. They had one child John. They moved to Nottingham where Samuel is listed in the return dated 12th October 1674 under the Hearth Act 1662, as being charged in Richard Briggs Disnary for 3 hearths (or rather chimneys).

-1. JOHN CRESWELL was baptised at Calverton on the 1st May 1650 the son of -@. Samuel. Hemarried Hannah Parleby at Watton on the 4th April 1672 by licence issued on the 15th September 1671 in which he is described as a pharmacopula (seller of drugs). It is probable that Hannah died soon after bearing a child, for on the 24th Sept 1676 John married Abigale Dimme. There were nine children from this marriage. John's name was subscribed on the Roll of those having taken the Oath of Association 1695/6 for the Town of Nottingham. John was buried at St Mary's Church on the 2nd February 1706.

0. SAMUEL CRESWELL's baptism has not been found. His name was added to the Roll of Burgesses of Nottingham on the 21st November 1695. It records that he was brought up but not born in Nottingham (Town). For election to the Roll it required a qualifying age of at least 21 years, so he was probably born about 1673. This would fit him in as the son of -1. John's first marriage in 1672 to Hannah whilst he was at Calverton. He married Mary Woodward at St Mary's Church on the 22nd December 1695 and was described as a Framework Knitter, aged 22 years, again confirming his birth in 1673. They had six children. Mary was buried at St Peter's Church, Nottingham on the 23rd September 1736. Samuel married again on the 13th November 1740 to Mary Wright at St Peter's Church, Radford by Licence on the 11th November 1740.. Samuel was buried at St Peters Church, Nottingham on the 4th March 1747, being described as a Parish Clerk

This additional information may be of interest.

1. SAMUEL CRESWELL. Despite extensive searches by a great uncle in the 1880's and myself, the record of his birth, baptism, death or burial has not been found. Letters of Administration were issued to his son 3.Samuel on the 11th March 1774.

3. SAMUEL CRESWELL was a Newspaper Proprietor, Printer and Bookseller. He ran a very prosperous business until he obtained a licence to print 2/6d. bank notes. They were extensively forged, he lost his money and had to take the post of Sexton at St Mary's Church whilst also acting as an Auctioneer.

6. THOMAS CRESWELL's marriage to Isabella has not been traced. He was apprenticed to his father in 1745 for training as a Baker. There must be doubt on this marriage because the conditions of his Apprentiship Indenture would stipulate that he could not marry until released. If it was for the normal period of 7 years, then he could not marry until 1752. Thomas first reputed child was born in 1751 so the marriage, if one took place, was probably in 1750 when he was 18 years of age. Whether they co-habited rather than marrying is a possibility. Thomas had an elder brother, another Thomas baptised on the 27th May 1729, whose burial has not been traced. If he survived he could also considered to be the one who married Isabella.

14. EDWARD CRESWELL was Vicar of Clayworth then of Lenton and Radford until his death in 1840. The Sarah, living at 19 Mansfield Terrace in 1851 (Census Piece 3132, Folio 301) is his wife in widowhood. Ann Bell was also a daughter. The ages of Eliza and Lucy are understated by 10 years.

21. SAMUEL CRESWELL was Curate of Radford to his father and then was appointed Vicar on his father's death in 1840 until he died in 1880
