William Champion Brockway (1799 to 1883) a farmer and his wife Eunice Chapel (1798 to 1879) were both born in Connecticut. Their ancestors emigrated from England about 1658. William C. & Eunice was the parents of 6 children. They were in order of birth, Mary Ann, Christina, Francis A., Christopher, Alice M. and Norman C..

Mary Ann, Christina, Francis A., & Christopher was all born in New Lyme, New London Co., Connecticut. Alice M. was born ca’ 1834 in the State of Ohio and Norman C. was born ca’ 1842 in the State of New York. This leads me to believe that William C. and family migrated to Ohio sometime around 1834 and then to New York about 1842. A William C. Brockway was listed on the 1840 census records as living in Livingston Co., New York.

By the time the census taker visited them on the 5th October 1850, they were living in Wheatfield, Niagara County, New York. They were living near the family of Irara & Abigail Newman.

The 1860 census records for Aztalan, Jefferson Co., Wisconsin enumerated 28 June 1860, we find F. A. Brockway, age 35yrs., occupation farmer, Theresa, age 36yrs, Wm. R., age 5yrs, L. A. age 4yrs and Wm. C., age 59yrs., also engaged in farming. I felt sure that Wm C., was the father of F. A. Brockway.

After the death of his wife in 1867 Francis A. packed up his children and belongings and with his parents William C. and Eunice, brother Norman C. and sister Alice Newman and family, by wagon train the families headed to Alabama. When the families arrived they settled in the far N. E. part of the Madison Co., around the Elkwood Community.

Eunice died 22 February 1879 in New Lyme, Ashtabula County, Ohio. William died 13 March 1883, Madison County, Alabama
